It’s that time of year you guys! Spooky season!
I love October (well, as I’m sure you know, I just love fall in general!) But there’s something so fun and special about October! It’s like, the last month before the Christmas season really begins. (Because we all know if you’ve been in any retail store lately, Christmas decorations are out already LOL!)
One of my favorite quotes is from the book ‘Anne of Green Gables’ by L.M. Montgomery: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”…have you ever read any of the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ series? All of them are pretty much my favorite childhood books! They even turned them into movies via the Disney Chanel, and eventually a spin off called “Avonlea.” …So good!!
Anyways, in October, the air is perfect, the foliage is as its peak and Halloween is at the end of the month. Do you love Halloween? I do and always have! There’s something so fun about getting dressed up and watching scary movies and carving pumpkins and making spooky treats!
I have fond memories of being little and helping my Mom put up Halloween decorations. She had these cardboard window cut outs that she would hang all over the house. I loved them! They were of scary witches, haunted houses, skeletons and black cats. I always knew Halloween was coming when my Mom brought out the cut outs hehe!
I also loved Halloween because we would have parties at school. (From what I hear, they don’t do this anymore, which is such a shame!) …But all the kids would dress up and we would have a parade where every grade would march around the school and show off their snazzy costumes. There were even prizes for the best costume! I won one year for my Rainbow Brite costume – hands down, that was one of my favorites. It was hand made and I thought I was such a rock star haha! After the parade we’d go back to our classrooms where we would feast on all the snacks! Mostly spooky treats like cupcakes and cookies, but there was always the super cool parent who would order pizza for us haha. Those were the days! Sometimes I miss being a kid…everything was so much more fun and care free back then!
My family and friends still try and keep these traditions alive. We are actually attending a Halloween party next week at a local farm. They decorate the barn and have themed cocktails and a band plays…it’s so much fun! Of course everyone dresses up and there’s even cash prizes.
I’ve been working on my costume for the past couple of weeks (I’m keeping it a secret so no one steals my idea haha!) …But personally, I love DIY costumes so much more than store bought ones. If you’re looking for some ideas, here are a few websites to check out:
