Falling for Fall

I’m not sure when it happened, but it seems as though over night fall came to Maine. I’m talking, the leaves are already changing and the nights are chilly enough for fires. Usually this doesn’t happen until October! …But, with all that 2020 has brought us, I’m really not surprised about anything anymore haha.

I also can’t complain; this is the start of my favorite time of year. The cozy sweaters, faux fur coats, and chunky boots…Plus the holidays are near. I just can’t get enough of this season! With the weather getting colder so quickly, I had to go to my parent’s house to get all of my fall and winter clothes. I’m kind of excited to wear my sweaters…It’s a nice change from wearing my sweat pants and hoodies all day haha. I think this is a good way to feel more ‘dressed up’ and like a real person.

I actually went apple picking with my girlfriends the other day. Yes, we did the stereotypical ‘fall photo shoot’ in the apple orchard. (Do whatever makes you happy is my motto!) …I made sure to wear my most fall festive apparel: Plaid trousers, a turtle neck sweater and of course a hat. I looked adorable…but the mask ruined things a little lol. It’s hard to remember a time where we didn’t have to cover our faces in public – and that’s scary. I wonder if in the next year we will be able to go in public without masks? The CDC is making it sound as though by next fall, we should all be receiving a vaccine. I hope so because I don’t know if I can take another year of this craziness. Plus, I have about 20 weddings to attend because everyone postponed their big days until next year.

But anyways, apple picking was a blast. The place we go actually has a little cidery and cafe attached to it. Of course we had to get snacks and get some hard cider…and doughnuts! Always doughnuts! It’s these little moments that really make life feel normal again, even if just briefly. We drank and ate and laughed and enjoyed the gorgeous fall scenery. I wish all days could be as good as that one was!

…But reality set in when I started reading the news. Between everything with COVID and the upcoming election, life can be a downer. I’m trying to focus on all the positives though: My outfits are improving. Fall is here and I couldn’t be happier. Next month is Spooky Season and I’m still getting a costume and pumpkins and watching horror movies. Thanksgiving and Christmas are not too far behind! I’ve been able to spend more time with my family and friends lately (safely, of course!)

So things aren’t all that bad. I’m actually eating an apple cider doughnut as I type this, so in this moment I am completely content haha. I’m going over to my parent’s tomorrow to bake apple pies and apple crisps and apple bread, too. (This is a tradition we do every year. Normally we all go together as a family for apple picking, but we decided to just buy the apples at the store instead because my parent’s try not to go out in public all that much. They’re being careful!) I’m excited to laugh and bake and eat with my sisters and parents. It will be fun!

October is also looking promising as my friends and I have set up a few fall hikes for the weekends. The trails in Maine were super crowed this summer, so I’m hoping now that tourist season is over, just the locals are out on the trails. I can’t wait to do some leaf peeping!

Enjoy the crisp weather, folks!
